Advertisment

This week us as an class had an open blog. So what I wanted to discuss was the planning of Hasbro the toy maker hitting the small screen. Since the movie transformer made a hit on the big screen Hasbro has ideas to make there board games such as Monopoly, Candy Land, Battleship, Clue, Ouija and Stretch Armstrong into a movie. Hasbro has teamed up with Universal so by 2010 the first movie should be out in the public. I believe this is a great promotional strategy to increase the already popular board games and reach towards a new audience. Hasbro also has plans to expand its digital gaming selections so this will also help boost sells. Hasbro has had problems with the online gaming trend so I really think they should begin to offer something in that market to reach a bigger target market. i believe it will be interesting how Hasbro changes its marketing strategies to adapt to the new trends. http://adage.com/article?article_id=125249

Advertising and Society

Does advertising emulate society or does society emulate advertising?

From my perspective I believe that our society emulates advertising and advisements emulates society. I consider this to be a big revolving circle that affects society today. From my perspective advertising shows the audience what they want to see regardless of if our society is conscious of it or not. Advertisement shows images of what we want to have or would like to be. Advertisements play on what society sets for itself. If we all want to have that perfect body companies will advertise to play on that aspect in order to sell there product. For instance a Jenny Craig commercial for years have showed in there commercials before and after pictures of people who claim to lose such and such pounds on the Jenny Craig diet and exercise. These types of commercials will show a person who is a representative of the general public or a little over weight individual and after shows a person who is a representative of a society's ideal body type. This is an example of society emulating advertising.

As an example of advertising emulating society it comes back to what we discussed in class. In class we discussed how deodorant was in the passed not required in our day to day life in society but a certain type of advertisement showed to the society that deodorant is needed and required for good hygiene so our society adapted that concept. So advertising does have an certain effect on society either positive or negative. In conclusion, I believe that society does emulate advertising as well as advertising emulates our society.
